Jason Ricci & New Blood (Friday, July 4, 9:00 PM, $5 cover). Eclecto Groove Recording artists Jason Ricci and New Blood mix blues, rock, funk, eastern, and jazz into a seamless cohesion, both eclectic and idiosyncratic while avoiding clichés and histrionics. Harp player Jason Ricci has gigged with artists ranging from Susan Tedeschi to Junior Kimbrough, and has even appeared on “Emeril Live.” Yes, Ricci cooks – and his varied influences (like the Rolling Stones, Sun Ra and Gov’t Mule) result in a stew that reflects punk attitude, jazz precision, and gritty blues power. Guitarist Shawn Starski is a highly-rated young gun who provides extra fireworks.

Crow (Friday, July 11, 9:00 PM, $5 cover). While Prince and his stable of artists made Minneapolis-based hit records a common occurrence, there was a time when the idea was almost unheard of. In 1969, when The Beatles were still producing hits and artists like Hendrix and The Doors were at their peak, the Minneapolis group Crow broke out with the huge hit “Evil Woman (Don’t Play Your Games With Me)”. The song made such an impact that it was covered by groups from Black Sabbath to Ike & Tina Turner. These were high times for Crow, who shared bills with Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane and others. The classic rock sound, infused with R&B muscle, still rocks the FM dial to this day. Crow is led by original lead singer Dave Wagner, who is a true rock warrior leading an incredible band through a timeless sound.

Doug McDonald (Saturday, July 12, 9:00 PM $5 cover). Don’t let his nickname (the Arkansas Razorback) fool you – Doug McDonald is a true standard bearer of Chicago blues. When Doug performs at Buddy Guy’s Legends in his hometown of Chicago, the proprietor is known to join him on stage (which equals Buddy’s seal of approval). This incredible guitarist and singer has played for over 30 years, performing around the world with cats like Junior Wells, Jimmy Reed, Albert King, James Cotton and many others. A rare Minnesota appearance that shouldn’t be missed.

Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials (Friday, July 18, 9:00 PM, $5 cover). Nobody throws a party quite like Lil' Ed & the Blues Imperials. “Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials are genuine house-rocking masters . . . some of the hottest electric blues around. Duck-walking, back-bending, mind-blowing.” Blues Revue. From smokin' slide guitar boogies to raw-boned Chicago shuffles to the deepest slow blues, Lil' Ed is a masterful bluesman. Not only is the little man a giant blues talent, he is one of the most entertaining stage veterans on the road today.

The Brass Kings (Monday, July 21, 8:00 PM, no cover). Steve Kaul (resophonic guitar), Brad Ptacek (washtub bass) and Mikkel Beckmen (washboard, percussion) take old-time style acoustic blues, sneak in an occasional world-music twist, and convert non-believers into devoted fans. Featuring tunes from their recent CD, Washboard Rope Guitar, The Brass Kings had the crowds on their feet at the recent Famous Dave’s BBQ & Blues Festival.

Randy McAllister (Friday, July 25, 9:00 PM, $5 cover). The State of Texas brings us Randy McAllister – a blues-drenched singer, drummer and harmonica cat with some country-roots rock influence. Randy is a storyteller like only a fifth-generation Texan can be. With nods to the sounds of Doug Sahm, Delbert McClinton and others, Randy's style includes wry wit while tackling gritty, real-life topics. His 2002 release Givers and Takers was a Grammy nominee. DOPE SLAP SOUP is his latest CD. Intriguing? Yes.

Michael Burks (Thursday, July 31, 9:00 M, $3 cover). A powerful blues force and W.C. Handy nominee, Michael Burks is an intense performer on guitar and vocals who leaves it all on the stage. His reputation has been growing since his first gig at age six, and his performances at premier events like the King Biscuit Festival in Helena, Arkansas continue to sway legions of fans. It hits hard and it feels good.
